I'm talking to you east of the river. We need you tonight -- and bring a friend.
It is rare that I come out of the box and add commentary to my community announcements (okay maybe that is not 100% true) but I feel compelled to say a few words here.
In response to the need for financial education and support (particularly in communities east of the river) we at The HIVE 2.0, through the support of Capital One Bank was able to partner with the Capital Area Asset Builders (CAAB) to offer a series of workshops on personal finance and credit repair. Not only are these workshops FREE but people can sign up for FREE one-on-one finance and credit repair with CAAB counselors after the event. The counselors will come to The HIVE 2.0 (1231 Good Hope Rd SE) to assist you.
We know that times are hard and people are truly struggling with how to make a dollar stretch further and how to save for important things like education, retirement, and homeownership.
I am disappointed to say that at our first workshop in January we only had FOUR PEOPLE in attendance. Part of that was due to the weather (snow storm on the way) but it was troubling to see the lack of participation from the east of the river community in a workshop that was really tailored for them.
So with that in mind and as a prelude to the fact that we are hosting another "Can I Afford My Life?" workshop tonight, Tuesday, March 25th at The HIVE 2.0 at 6:30pm I am asking you to please reach out to at least one person you know who could benefit from this FREE SUPPORT and encourage them to attend tonight's workshop. It doesn't matter where they live or how old they are. Teens to senior citizens can benefit from the lessons that will be taught at tonight's class.
If we want a stronger community we need to provide the community with the tools it needs to succeed. Please help us help each other. Please help a friend, neighbor, or colleague get the help and support they could use to get on the path to financial health and independence. Please pick up the phone and call them, send them this message, or better yet -- escort them to tonight's workshop! There is no time like the present to get your financial house in order!
The HIVE 2.0 is located at 1231-B Good Hope Rd SE on the lower level of the Anacostia Arts Center. Look for the red door below The HIVE 2.0 sign. For entry ring the doorbell.

Thank you and I hope to see you tonight!
