***TRAFFIC ADVISORY***

REMINDER:  Closure Planned for the Westbound Southeast Freeway Between Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and 8th Street, SE Starts Tomorrow

Closure to Remain in Place for 18-20 Month Period;
New Ramp from 11th Street, SE to Westbound I-695 Set to Open Tomorrow Morning

WASHINGTON, DC  –The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is reminding motorists that the westbound Southeast Freeway between Pennsylvania Avenue and 8th Street, SE will be closed after tomorrow morning’s rush hour period.  The full closure of the westbound lanes will remain in place for approximately 18 to 20 months while crews complete improvements to the freeway as part of the 11th Street Bridge Project - Phase 2 construction.

In addition, DDOT will also be opening the newly constructed ramp from 11thStreet, SE to westbound I-695 (SE/SW Freeway) tomorrow morning. This new ramp will greatly improve traffic flow through Capitol Hill by providing a second access point to the Freeway other than the 3rd Street, SE on-ramp. It will also provide more direct access to the Freeway for Anacostia residents using the local 11th Street Bridge as well as improve evening rush-hour from the Navy Yard.

During the closure, motorists traveling southbound on DC-295 (Anacostia Freeway) and westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will be detoured to the new I-695 inbound freeway bridge to reach the SE/SW Freeway and I-395.  Variable message signs are in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled closure.  See map below for details.

In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.
