SHEPHERD PARK COMMUNITY CLEAN THIS SAT
Restore Shepherd Parkway in 2012
The Congress Heights Community Association is
partnering with National Capitol Parks-East in an
epic effort to restore the natural splendor of one
of DC’s most neglected wooded areas. By
removing trash, debris, and invasive species, we
will be protecting our trees, wildlife and rivers
and making the park into a place for all to enjoy.
Six community clean-up days are
scheduled from 9 AM to 1 PM:
Saturday, July 21
Saturday, September 15
Saturday, October 20
Saturday, November 17
Meet at Malcolm X Avenue and 2ND Street SE, just off of 295 and close to Congress
Heights Metro.
Gloves, bags, and lunch will be provided. Wear good shoes and clothes you can get
dirty.

• Shepherd Parkway is a 205-acre wooded area managed by
the National Park Service.
• The park is home to two bald eagles nests and the remains
of two Civil War forts, Fort Carroll and Ft. Greble
• The southern end of Shepherd Parkway connects to both
Oxon Run Park and Oxon Cove Park
• Many of the oak, poplar, hickory and beech trees in the
park are over 100 years old
• Years of dumping and neglect have made the park a
disgrace to Ward 8. Help us make it right.
• If you see dumping, get a tag number and description and
call the Park Police at 202-610-7500
• If you need large items picked up from the street or ally,
call the city at 311.
