WARD EIGHT DESERVES A NEW IMAGE AS THE FACE OF WARD EIGHT LEADERSHIP!!!
Jacque Patterson |
Saturday, March 17, 2012 the Ward Eight Democrats held it's endorsement forum for candidates who will be listed on the ballot April 3, 2012 seeking the Ward Eight City Council seat. The candidates are incumbent Marion Barry, Sandra "SS" Seegars, Natalie Williams, Darrell Gaston, and Jacque Patterson. To receive the endorsement of the Ward Eight Democrats would require 60% of the ballots cast. No one came close to the 60%, there was no endorsement.
As president of the Ward Eight Democrats I had to remain neutural until after the endorsement forum. If any of the candidates had received the endorsement the ward organization would have been obligated to support the peoples choice for endorsement. However, because of "no endorsement" I am now free to choose a candidate of my personal choice to support. After praying, watching, listening, and speaking with the candidates I have made a decision to support Candidate Jacque Patterson.
I have prayed many times with Mr. Patterson, and for him and his family. I love the fact that he is a family man, former military man, college graduate, former Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, former president of the Ward Eight Democrats. Mr. Patterson has served on many boards and commissions over the years and he and his family attends church services regularly. I do believe that Mr. Patterson is not running because he needs a job, but because he sincerely cares about the community that he lives in. He is very positive and energetic and one that will reach out to unite the ward. We have been divided for too long.
It is time for us to stop looking back on what was done many years ago and start looking to our future!!! Looking to the future is to look at our children and youth (they are the future). We must use our vote to be sure they have someone in leadership that they can look up to and respect "in the hear and now". This is not the situation at present. You know it and I know it. It's time to put in place a new face and family as the image of the Ward, one we can all respect.
The Washington Post endorsement has no influence on our decision to support Mr. Patterson. Some residents had a meeting with Mr. Patterson three months ago and helped him develop his eight point platform. We do believe that Mr. Patterson is the best choice for Ward Eight . We stand committed to work with him and our community.
It's with great pleasure that I formerly announce my support with other community residents this evening.
