April 7 | Deaf Dog and the Indictments Band to Perform at Saint Elizabeths Hospital

When: Saturday, April 7, 2012
Time: 4:00 pm
Free and open to the public

Deaf Dog and the Indictments, advertised as “the world’s only (almost) all-judge band”, are performing a mix of  rock'n'roll, Motown, and the blues on Saturday, April 7th, at 4 pm, in the auditorium of Saint Elizabeths Hospital.  The concert is free and open to the public. The band will cover hits by B.B. King, Wilson Pickett, and Elvis Presley, among others.
When not jammin’ with the band, members can be found on the bench at DC Superior Court.  Band members are Superior Court Judges Franklin Burgess, “Professor”; John  Campbell, “Trash Can”;  Russell F. Canan, “Top Dog”; and William Jackson, “Dawgg” ; along with Magistrate Judges John McCabe, “Cartwheel”,  and William Nooter, “Blue Dog” . Psychologist Marc Feldman, “Hound Dog” rounds out the band.  The judges see the band as a way to reach out to the community in a way that differs from their professional role hearing criminal, family, and probate cases.
Deaf Dog and the Indictments formed in 2005 to take part in a talent show at a court training conference.  The band's name was decided at an early rehearsal when all of the band members' families left the room except a faithful canine.  The band members took heart that the dog appreciated their unique sound, only to find out later that she was completely deaf.  The band has appeared at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, Grog & Tankard in Georgetown, and at local judicial and legal conferences.
A picture ID is required for access to the Saint Elizabeths Hospital campus.  The Hospital is located at 1100 Alabama Avenue SE adjacent to the Congress Heights Metro (Green Line). Metro riders enter the campus at Gate 6 and cars enter at Gate 5 on Alabama Avenue. Free parking.
