2/24 deadline to apply for LUMEN8Anacostia temporium/performance grant

Do you have an idea for a visionary, inspirational and exciting project? Funding is available to support projects and performances in Anacostia Historic District venues and spaces that exemplify artistic excellence. Applicant’s proposals should be include exceptional programs and performances that would not be feasible without this funding. These high-profile projects must expand access to the arts and creative place making in Anacostia; special consideration will be
given to programs that draw a diverse population to Anacostia.
Temporium projects must be able to be in place prior to April 6, 2012 and must stay in place
and be staffed [if applicable] at a minimum each Saturday from 12 noon to 5pm during the time
frame of April 6, 2012 through July 7, 2012 and 6 other hours a week during the same time
period.
Performance projects must be held over a one or two month period, with preference given to
performances on April 14, 2012; the proposed date of the LUMEN8Anacostia festival.
Applicants may submit proposals for projects and performances ranging from up to $3,000,
depending on square footage/complexity of project.
A listing of potential venues is attached. Artists are not confined to the venues provided;
however, if one these venues is not used, the application must have written landlord or owner
permission as well as later approval from the LUMEN8Anacostia committee.
Eligibility
• Artists, musicians, performers, curators, organizations, venue owners or managers
located in District of Columbia area. Lumen8Anacostia greatly encourages projects that
incorporate Anacostia businesses, residents, employees, volunteers and organizations.
• Proposals from artists or performers must include a letter of support from the
manager/owner of the property on which exhibition/performance is to take place if one
of identified venues is not used. See attached map for available project space.
• Exceptions may be made for locations outside but adjacent to the primary project area
if the application explains the ways in which the proposed project will impact Anacostia
and support the outcomes listed above, though preference will be given to locations
within Lumen8Anacostia boundaries.
• Projects must take place between April 6, 2012 and July 6, 2012 and must be made
accessible to the public. Projects can be in place prior to and after indicated date.
• Applicants may submit requests for multiple projects, but each applicant may only
receive funding once, unless applicant submits as part of a new partnership.
