Overnight Closures Planned for Eastbound SE/SW Freeway Between Pennsylvania Avenue and 11th Street

20-Minute Traffic Stoppages Also Expected On SE/SW Freeway Westbound Lanes
Crews to Install Bridge Girders over Freeway

(Washington, D.C.) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the eastbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway between Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and 11 th Street, SE from 10 pm to 5 am on November 17, 21 and 22.  During this time the entrance ramp to the eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway from Pennsylvania Avenue, SE will also be closed.

These lane closures and traffic stoppages will be required to install bridge girders over the Southeast/Southwest Freeway for a new freeway bridge.

While the eastbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway are closed signed detours will be posted. 

Motorists will also encounter 20-minute traffic stoppages on the Southeast/Southwest Freeway westbound lanes between 11 thStreet, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE during the same time period.

Detour

Motorists traveling eastbound on the SE/SW Freeway will be detoured to southbound South Capitol Street to the Douglass Bridge to Suitland Parkway to I-295 NB on-ramp and then to Pennsylvania Avenue.
Variable message signs will be in place to provide motorists advanced notice of the scheduled detour. 
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.

This closure is in addition to the previously publicized off-peak closures of the 11 th Street bridges, related ramps, local streets, and I-295/DC 295.
