Williams tells 9NEWS NOW, she's not running against Marion Barry but "For the people."
In a news release Williams says, in part:
"It is my desire to fulfill a committment I made when I ran for the presidency of the Ward 8 Democrats to provide leadership, vision, and courage in exercising my right to represent the people I have come to love and call my family.
I would hope that as we advance this campaign that those persons in the Ward who have a desire to protect the beauty of our Ward and who are committed to the progression of our Ward will join me in moving forward in the best interest of all of our residents -- irrespective of age, gender, race and economic status.
As a candidate for the City Council for Ward 8, I want to make it very clear. I am not running against anyone, but instead, running for you, my fellow neighbors. I am running against unemployment, against substandard education, against poverty, and against lack of access of high
quality health care."
