SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Contract Specialist I classification calls for a professional with sound
knowledge, training and experience in purchasing or purchasing-related
activities, solicitations, and contract specifications and administration of
contracts. This work involves the acquisition of supplies, materials,
services and equipment required to support Center operations. A high degree
of accuracy in the development and maintenance of records and procurement
procedures is required. Work is performed under the close supervision of
the Director, Requisitions & Contracts.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
* Understanding of federal and local procurement practices.
* Ability to express ideas and convey information effectively, both
orally and in writing.
* Ability to conduct professional contract negotiations.
* Ability to develop and maintain accurate records.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in contracts and procurement management;
business administration, accounting, or closely related field; OR
* Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in
procurement including experience in solicitation preparation and/or contract
preparation and administration; OR
* Any equivalent combination of related experience, training, and/or
education.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
* Certification in procurement and contracts management, or course
work in a certification program, or the ability to begin certification
program within one (1) year of employment.

Transportation Assistant Full/Part-time Positions Available

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Transportation Assistant is responsible for maintaining traffic control
and safely escorting pedestrian traffic across the intersections surrounding
the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Incumbent assists in the
day-to-day traffic control functions, including, but not limited to,
directing traffic, controlling parking, and controlling taxi lanes. The
Transportation Assistant reports to the Manager, Transportation Services or
manager's designee.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to express ideas and communicate effectively, both orally and in
writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the
public and associates.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, nights,
weekends and holidays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Six (6) months of responsible experience performing general public contact
work, customer relations, or retail sales.
Excellent customer service skills.

Security Officer

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Security Officer is responsible for safeguarding the Center's customers,
general public, employees, facilities, equipment and supplies. Patrols
assigned areas of the Center, on foot and/or bicycle, while observing
activities to prevent hazardous and criminal conduct. Ensures compliance
with established Center rules, regulations and procedures pertaining to
security, safety and personnel conduct. Writes thorough and comprehensive
incident reports that are provided to the Legal Services Division. Receives
supervision from and reports to the Patrol Services Supervisor or Manager,
Security Services or manager's designee. The incumbent must also be able to
work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and
holidays.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENT
Must apply for a Special Police Officer's Commission within 120 days, which
includes passing a drug test immediately following receipt of employment
offer letter.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
US citizenship or Naturalization certificate required for SPO license.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year of experience in protective services.
Valid Security Guard's License.
Ability to meet physical and medical standards necessary for the performance
of assigned tasks.
Ability to express ideas and convey information effectively, both orally and
in writing.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to stand for sustained periods of time.
Ability to walk extended distances and climb stairs to access the interior
and environs of the Center.
Ability to read and write instructions, floor plans, forms and other written
material.
Ability to converse orally and utilize standard telephones and two-way
radios to receive and communicate information to staff and customers.
