Register Today to Volunteer at DCPS Beautification Day! 

Join Serve DC and DC Public Schools on Saturday, August 20, 2011 for DCPS Beautification Day! This annual event began in 2005 as a citywide "spruce up" of all DC Public School buildings in preparation for the first day of school. Activities will run from 8:00am to 1:00pm and include landscaping, trash pick up, light painting, planting flowers and more. Volunteers and supplies are needed at more than 100 schools.

New Salad Bars at High Schools Across the District! 

Calling all foodies, activists and advocates! Volunteers are needed to support "Eat More Salad," a joint initiative between Serve DC and DC Public Schools designed to show students how to create balanced meals at new DCPS salad bars! This commitment is one lunch shift on the day of your choice from Aug. 29 through Sept. 2, 2011. Salad bars = faster, fresher, healthier food. They empower students to make smart choices and increase cafeteria efficiency.

Football Fans: Volunteer with Nation's Football Classic

The inaugural Nation's Football Classicâ„¢, featuring longstanding rivals Howard University and Morehouse College, needs volunteers who want to attend the game and gain real-life experience behind the scenes. Organized by Events DC and hosted at RFK Stadium on Saturday, September 10 at 3:30pm, the Classic, is a celebration of HBCU's rich culture, tradition and unity. Volunteers will support Game Operations, Public Relations, Media Operations, Grassroots Marketing and Special Events, as well as serve as Game Day Ambassadors.

Fall 2011; Various Opportunities
Experience Corps Needs Adults 55+ to Serve as Tutors & Mentors

Experience Corps, an award-winning national program, brings adults aged 55+ into public elementary schools to tutor and mentor children who are at risk of academic failure. For a few hours each week, tutors work in schools assisting primarily with reading, writing and language instruction. Tutors are well trained and supported to help students learn the skills they need for academic success.

Experience Corps members willing to serve a minimum of 15 hours per week can receive a modest monthly stipend through AmeriCorps to cover out of pocket expenses related to volunteer service.
