The DC Microfiction project originates from a novel by French writer  Régis Jauffret, called  Microfictions. awarded the  2007 France Culture/Telerama Literary Prize.

Microfictions is comprised of 500 short stories, each only one and a half page long celebrating the diversity, the fragility, but above all the commonality of the human condition.

During the  “Nuit Blanche” (Sleepless Night) event held in Paris in 2008, 130 actors performed Jauffret’s

Microfictions during a nine-hour event at the Theatre du Rond-Point on the Champs Elysées.

After last year’s success of the first edition of DC Microfiction  (See Video)  The Alliance Française de Washington and the  French Theater Collective Derezo are proud to present 15 new  microfictions using two DC neighborhoods (the Anacostia Historic District and U Street) as a stage for street art performances that merge theatrical and musical performances.

This event will redefine the public space and encourage an audience from across the Greater Washington Area to share and communicate as they establish new connections between two unique DC neighborhoods.

■■Saturday May 28:  Anacostia Neighborhood Microfictions:

A unique and creative walk in the Anacostia historic district highlighting the hidden gems and community gathering places of a changing neighborhood where many art galleries, restaurants and other cultural institutions are starting their businesses.

This circuit of public readings will be in English.

■■Sunday May 29:  U Street Neighborhood Microfictions:

One of Washington’s most vibrant neighborhoods and cultural scene, U Street is buzzing with modern energy

and urban life while continuing to honor its history. In the early 20th century, “Black Broadway,” as it was known, played home to top jazz musicians, including Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis.
