My review of the 3rd Annual Santa Costia Event
In a word:
AWESOME
On Saturday, December 18th, David Garber held his 3rd annual Santa Costia Holiday Party at the Honfleur Gallery in Historic Anacostia with proceeds benefiting Ward 8 non-profit, Fly Youth DC. This was my first time attending Santa Costia but I had a ball (and a beer -- okay maybe two)! It had all the things that turn a "good" party into a "we should do this more often" party.
Great Food
Good Cause (see how food ranked higher than cause)
Stimulating Conversation
Free Booze
Poetry
Art
A flash mob!!!!
So many people came out and had a wonderful time, a lot of them were first time Anacostia visitors who will go home with a positive experience about their time in Anacostia -- a much different experience than what is always depicted on the evening news. This is why good social events are so important East of the River, the more diverse, the more opportunities for people to learn from each other. I had such a great time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. I spent a good portion of the night hugging people and exchanging phone numbers/twitter handles.
This is what the new River East is all about -- bridging the gap!
Including some pictures I took with my Blackberry Curve-- please pardon the fuzziness!
