PRESS RELEASE: Eastbound SE/SW Freeway Reduction to One Lane and 11th Street Lane Closures 10-4 to 10-31

Eastbound SE/SW Freeway to be Reduced to One Lane for Overhead Sign Work
Midnight to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 7,

Contractors to Close One Lane Each Hour Starting at 8:30 p.m.


Additional Off-Peak Lane Closures in Both Directions of 11th Street Bridge,
Related Portions of SE/SW Freeway, I-295/DC 295 and Local Streets
Daily and Nightly from Oct. 4 to 31


Contractors Continuing 11th Street Bridge Project Construction Activities


WASHINGTON, DC – Contractors for the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) will reduce eastbound Southeast-Southwest Freeway to one lane from midnight to 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 7 for overhead sign work related to the 11th Street Bridge Project. Workers will close one lane in that direction of the freeway each hour starting at 8:30 p.m.


From October 4 to 31, contractors will continue work requiring off-peak lane closures in both directions of the 11th Street Bridge and related portions of the Southeast-Southwest Freeway, Interstate 295/DC 295 and local streets.


In addition, N Street SE will be permanently reduced to one lane.


Daily Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. closures may include:


· One lane in each direction of I-295/ DC295 between Pennsylvania Avenue and Howard Road.


· The left lane of the inbound 11th Street Bridge and connecting ramp to the SE/SW Freeway.


· One lane of the outbound 11th Street Bridge and the connecting ramp to southbound I-295/DC 295.


· One lane of the ramp from northbound I-295/DC 295 to the inbound 11th Street Bridge.


· One lane of the ramp from the eastbound SE/SW Freeway to the outbound 11th Street Bridge.


One lane in each direction of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway between 4th Street SE and Pennsylvania Avenue.


The left lane of 11th Street SE from M to O Street SE.


The left lane of 12th Street SE from N to O Street SE.


· The right lane of westbound Good Hope Road between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Anacostia Drive.


· Using a flagger to alternate both directions of traffic on O Street SE in one shared lane between 11th Street and 12th Street SE.




Each night Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. closures may include:


· All lanes of Good Hope Road between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Anacostia Drive.


· One lane in each direction of I-295/DC 295 between Pennsylvania Avenue and Howard Road.


· The left lane of the inbound 11th Street Bridge and connecting ramp to the SE/SW Freeway.


One lane of the outbound 11th Street Bridge and the connecting ramp to southbound I-295/DC 295


· One lane of the ramp from northbound I-295/DC 295 to the inbound 11th Street Bridge.


The left lane on the ramp from the Southeast/Southwest Freeway to the outbound 11th Street Bridge.


Two lanes in each direction of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway between the 6th Street Exit and Pennsylvania Avenue.


· All lanes of N Street between 12th and 11th Street SE, which includes closing the ramp from the inbound 11th Street Bridge. A signed detour will be provided.


In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions, this work will be rescheduled and an updated advisory will be distributed.
