Anacostia Fotoweek- Take Three. For the third year in a row, Anacostia will become a mini photography enclave in recognition of DC Fotoweek. Five separate exhibitions and ancillary programs will give the historic district something contemporary to enjoy.

The Gallery at Vivid Solutions presents a solo exhibition of works by Vietnamese born artist Khanh H. Le. Neither… Nor includes 14 large scale images using the multiple plate polymer photogravure etching technique. Le examines identity, through the bits and pieces of personal memory, the collective history from two cultures; Vietnamese and American.

Le explains, “What happens to their (Vietnamese) identities and their contents once they become removed? I slowly placed them in contrast with...magazines I found at the grocery. I began to place figures from historical images and film throughout all of the living spaces that I have desired since childhood.” Le reflects the experiences of many Americans, looking at his own immigration story; “My rootedness is shaken with doubt and discomfort because it is transforming into a kind of rootless-ness as I slowly acclimate to American culture.... Contradictions and fragmentations are key issues in examining the notion of identity.”

Neither...Nor runs from 11/1 to 12/17 with an opening reception at 6pm on November 12, followed by a performance from the contemporary classical group, The Analog Arts Ensemble at 8pm. The group will be performing works by Roussel and Francaix, as well as a world premier by Dolf Kämper. The performance is funded in part by the NEA and is part of the galleries annual social arts initiative.

The Gallery at Vivid Solutions is located at 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE WDC 20020.

Honfleur Gallery is hosting Likeness, the brainchild of DC based photographer, Joshua Yospyn. The exhibition will include twenty artists: ten photographers paired with ten street artists with an end result of ten original portraits and ten interpretations of that portrait exhibited side by side. According to Yospyn, the project stemmed from “my desire to combine portrait photography and graffiti. I've been fascinated with street art for a few years...culminating with... Shepard Fairey's portrait of Obama based on an AP photo... [this] formed a desire to aspire to what Shepard Fairey created with his Hope poster, except on deliberately consenting terms between photographer and street artist. Graffiti, wheat pastes, paintings, mixed media, you name it, it's all fair game. So with the help of two dozen people, the "LIKENESS" project begins. This will be fun for everyone involved and it should be on your radar to visit during FotoWeek. “

Likeness artists include: (photographers) Bo Zhang, Chris Usher, David Holloway, Erica Allen, Jason Horowitz, Josh Yospyn, Lois Bielefeld, Joshua Cogan, Matt Dunn, & Michele Frankfurter (visual/street artists) Diabetik, Brandon Hill, Decoy, Asad Walker, Matthew Shlian, Lance Wiggs & Buck, Heather Stevens, Earnest Concepcion, Mike Estabrook, and Peter Chang.

Upstairs at Honfleur Gallery, video works by Paris based artist Charlotte L’Harmeroult will be on view concurrently with the Likeness exhibition.
