Why I would be GREAT for ANC 3B03

Hello Everyone,

My name is Mark Stevens, and I am running for the Commissioner seat for ANC 3B03. I have a list of reasons why I am running for this position (Which will be outlined on my website), but I will briefly discuss a few of those reasons. I have attended the majority of the ANC meetings in my neighborhood, and have a good working knowledge of the issues of my community. Upon speaking with a good amount of my neighbors, I have come to the conclusion that many of my neighbors do not know who our ANC Commissioner is, or they do not feel that she is the most friendliest or approachable person. So being younger and more social, I felt that I could communicate with my neighbors in a more effective and efficient manner. Next, there is no minority representation in my ANC. By minority I mean, ethnic minority, young people, and new comers to the neighborhood. So I wanted to give a voice to those who currently have don’t have a voice. I feel that I can bridge the gap between the older and younger residents in my neighborhood, and also get younger and minority residents involved in the neighborhood and local politics. I am not just about the minority and the younger generation’s interest; I am about representing Everybody.

I have other reasons why I have decided to run, but I’m going to give you one of the most important ones. I KNOW THAT I AM THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB. Currently I am the Secretary of the Glover Park Citizens Association (GPCA), the GPCA Delegate to the Federation of Citizens Associations, Glover Park Day Volunteer, & the Glover Park(Precinct 11) Delegate with the Ward 3 Democratic Committee. I also volunteer with the Office of Presidential Correspondence, and have helped shovel a record number of my neighbors cars out during Snomageddon. So I definitely have a strong interest in civic engagement. I feel my associations with these groups better equip me to discuss issues, make decisions, advocate, and better represent my neighbors. This civic engagement and affinity for my neighbors is an important reason why I am the best person for ANC 3B03.

My main focus is to be a neighbor that my neighbors can count on. I want to educate people about the ANC, and get my future constituents more involved in the community. I want to make Glover Park into the greatest neighborhood in the World. Also, I am heavily focused on Aging In Place. I have been working with the GPCA to create a group called the Golden Glovers to keep our Seniors in Glover Park, and make sure they have the resources to continue to live in the city and not move out of DC to the suburbs. One of the first things on my agenda is to put benches around the neighborhood so Seniors will be able to walk farther because they have some place to rest. This will not only benefit the Seniors, but also benefit the rest of my neighbors and anyone who visits the neighborhood. Education is definitely important. And making sure kids who do go to private school have a way to connect with the other kids in the neighborhood who go to DCPS. And last but not least, Statehood is of vast importance. I plan on getting my neighborhood more involved in the Statehood Movement. And then expand the Movement throughout the city, until DC Becomes A State!

Whether I win or I lose, I still will be in Glover Park working hard on these and other issues, and also continuing to advocate for my neighbors.

Just as I want Glover Park to be the greatest Neighborhood, I want DC to be the best City, and eventually the best State. My website will be up soon, hopefully next week.
