Congress Heights on the Rise

IN PICTURES: Fall Sunday in Congress Heights

The Advoc8te finally pulled the trigger and purchased a new digital camera.  My old digital camera resembled a silver brick and would only take one picture at a time before the battery died. Needless to say, I am super happy with my new camera which lacks the aforementioned paperweight/battery draining properties. I decided to break in my new toy so I walked around the neighborhood this afternoon and took some really amazing shots of the foliage. You sometimes forget all the beauty that surrounds you, most of it right outside your front door. All of these pictures were taken right in the neighborhood.

The thing I love most about photographs is that you can just appreciate them without all the preconcieved negative connotations. Sometimes I wonder if people who are so eager to hype all the bad (and lets face it over exaggerated) things about Southeast took a moment and realized that the sun still shines over here, the grass is still green (sometimes greener)  and that the seasons still change over here.  It's a place like any other place with good and bad and that there is every day beauty everywhere you look - as in any other neighborhood. These photos could be of any area in DC, especially the forest shots which look like they could have been taken in Rock Creek Park.

I hope you enjoy and you will definitely be seeing more (lots more) pictures of Congress Heights and Ward 8.

This is one of my favorite pictures. I pass this tree every single day and I never noticed the silver horseshoe until today.  I now call this tree "The Mighty Good Luck Tree".The picture above is also the "Mighty Good Luck Tree".
