Residents have been trying for Y-E-A-R-S to get much needed trashcans installed on high traffic streets in the neighborhood. Especially on Mellon Street SE which has a lot of foot traffic and several bus stops but not a single trashcan. Litter is a big issue on this street and residents have resorted to tying trash bags on their fences to try and curb the littering. Despite numerous requests from concerned citizens the response always seems to be from the Department of Public Works (up to and including Director Howland) that DPW doesn't install trashcans on residential streets.

The Advoc8te begs to differ. Here are a few of the trashcans I got installed last summer just by placing a request on the 7D listserve and the wonderful powers that be got on it right away.  Within TWO  days 4 trashcans were installed in my neighborhood and the litter issue was abated.

I guess you just have to know who or better yet where to ask. Here's to hoping that Mellon Street gets their trashcans soon - or at least in this decade. :)
