The Town Hall Education Arts & Recreation Campus (THEARC) is located in the CONGRESS HEIGHTS neighborhood of Ward 8.

From THEARC website ( http://www.thearcdc.org/):

Nearly 7,000 children live within a mile of THEARC’s doors. In fact, nearly half (42%) of the total number of children in Washington, DC live east of the Anacostia River. Many of these families live at or below the poverty line and in single-parent-headed homes. “East of the (Anacostia) River” also lacks medical care facilities, after school programs, theaters and other social and cultural services for children and families.

THEARC opened in October of 2005 in order to fill this gap in cultural and social services for children and families. THEARC is a ”home away from home” where kids and their families can learn dance, music and art, as well as partake in social services such as medical care, dental care, psychological care, family counseling and mentoring—all at little to no cost and in one beautiful, state-of-the art facility.

THEARC was built via a $27 million capital campaign funded by private and public sources. It is already operating successfully and making a real difference in the lives of the more than 2,000 children and parents currently enrolled in programs and services at THEARC.

The goal of the One in a Million Campaign for THEARC is to increase public awareness of THEARC and to raise a $10 million endowment for the building operations so that THEARC can serve deserving children and families for generations to come.

The One in a Million Campaign for THEARC is a collaborative effort on behalf of THEARC by the nine partner organizations housed in THEARC and Building Bridges Across the River at THEARC, the nonprofit organization responsible for the overall operations of THEARC, including overseeing THEARC theater and box office.
