POLICE CHIEF CATHY L. LANIER ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF FINAL HANDS ON DECK 2008
Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced today the results of Phase V of All Hands on Deck (AHOD) which began at 11 pm Thursday, December 18 and ended at 11 pm Saturday, December 20, 2008. AHOD Phase V was the last of the year.
MPD officers made 462 arrests, recovered nine firearms, and seized $35,925 worth of drugs. All five AHOD’s netted more than 2,300 arrests. Overall, assaults involving a gun are down 13 percent and robberies committed with the use of a gun are down 12 percent compared to this time last year. There were also no homicides during AHOD.
“More and more, members of our community are telling us that they will not stand for violence in their neighborhoods and they welcome the increased police presence,” Chief Lanier said. “My thanks to the DC Police Foundation and Target for the launch of the Safe City initiative during the last AHOD of 2008. They helped to make this AHOD a huge success.”
During AHOD, all available sworn MPD personnel were on patrol throughout the District emphasizing community policing, focused law enforcement and community outreach. This included increased foot beats, homicide detectives following up with victims, and recruits passing out specific crime related information.
The Metropolitan Police Department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any unsolved homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
The MPD is reminding residents, or anyone else who may know of a robbery that occurred in the District, that the MPD offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for any armed robbery or a robbery that results in serious bodily injury.
