DC WEATHERIZATION, REHABILITATION &ASSET PRESERVATION PROGRAM

Someone just sent this information over. Sounds like a great program hope they expand it and make it permanent!

DC Weatherization, Rehabilitation & Asset Preservation Program
1615 M Street, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20036

ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT GRANT OPPORTUNITIES through the DC Dept. of the Environment/Energy Office and Energy Programs Consortium

The District of Columbia Weatherization, Rehabilitation, and Asset Preservation Program (DC WRAP) is sponsored by the DC Department of the Environment/Energy Office and Energy Programs Consortium and provides grants for direct services in the homes of eligible home owners to improve their energy efficiency and housing affordability.

In order to determine your eligibility for this Program, please contact Robert Adams at 202 624-5867 at the DC WRAP office to request the DC WRAP Referral Form. Once eligibility is confirmed, we will arrange for an energy audit and install energy improvement measures in your home.

DCWRAP could provide you with up to $2,300 in weatherization services for a variety of cost-effective energy efficiency improvements including lighting, insulation, furnace and air conditioning maintenance and repair and refrigerator and appliance replacement. Each home will receive a comprehensive energy audit at no cost to you to determine what energy efficient measures would likely benefit your home.

If you are a homeowner and use your District home as your primary residence, we are asking for a few things to help us determine whether you are eligible. You must: (1) show proof that the
home is owned and occupied by you; (2) the home is not in danger of receivership by the City for unpaid taxes or loans; and (3) your total family income falls within the range below for your family size:

Household size Minimum - Maximum Annual Income
1 $33,100 - $42,000
2 $37,800 - $48,000
3 $42,550 - $54,000
4 $47,250 - $60,000
5 $51,050 - $64,800
6 $54,800 - $69,600
7 $58,600 - $74,000
8 $62,350 - $79,200

WHY HOME ENERGY EFFICIENCY IS SO CRITICAL

By now you are aware that energy costs are rising for your home. Air conditioning costs could rise between 10 and 20 percent this year as the summer heats up and electric costs increase. Heating your home this winter could cost you twice as much as last year if you use fuel oil and more than 30 percent more if you use natural gas. In some cases, the cost to provide energy in your home for lights, hot water, cooking, and heating/cooling could be more than your grocery bill during peak months.

THE DC WRAP DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM

Fortunately there is some good news. You may be eligible for a new demonstration program bein g offered by the DC Department of the Environment/Energy Office and Energy Programs Consortium. The newly launched DC Weatherization, Rehabilitation and Asset Preservation (DCWRAP) demonstration program will provide Weatherization-related services free of charge to eligible homeowners. Your participation in the Program may also be a great introduction to other services like home rehabilitation and mortgage financing for eligible families. This demonstration program will run for 16 months, ending September 2009, and will accept families on a first come first serve basis who are qualified so hurry to see if you can take advantage of these free energy efficiency services.

The program is limited to 188 units in DC, so act now and contact Robert Adams at 202 624-5867 to see if you are eligible. Because this is a demonstration program, we will be gathering information on all homes that qualify even if no services can be provided during the demonstration period to encourage the continuation of the program.

Good luck and we hope you will take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity to save energy and money through the DCWRAP.
