DPW Director Talks About: Free Shredding and E-cycling/HHW Drop-off
Last month DPW opened its first free shredding and e-cycling/household hazardous
waste drop-off site at the Benning Road Trash Transfer Station (3200 Benning Road,
NE, 8 am to 3 pm). The District is the first jurisdiction in the region to offer weekly
free shredding of personal documents. The site is open every Saturday, except
holidays. We ask residents to witness their documents being shredded to make sure
nothing is missed. Up to five, medium-size boxes (no larger than the standard District
recycling bin, which is approximately 20” x 14” x 14”) of paper personal documents
and credit cards will be accepted. No business or commercial material, please. For
more information, visit DPW’s website at www.dpw.dc.gov or call 311.
